About Sustainable Keswick
Sustainable Keswick is a non-for-profit organisation combating the climate crisis with locally run projects and campaigns. Our activism began in 2007 with a small group of volunteers, many of those first members are still a part of Sustainable Keswick alongside a larger network of like-minded individuals and organisations and has led to many successful campaigns:
- Introducing over 44 local businesses to the Refill Scheme to minimise single use plastic bottles.
- Planting 250 new trees in Fitz Park
- Campaigning for Cumbrian councils to declare a Climate Emergency.
And we continue to learn and make action through focusing on 4 key areas:
ENERGY
Reduce our carbon footprint at home and with local businesses.
FORESTRY, AGRICULTURE + FOOD
Protecting our natural world from soil, to shop to our homes.
WASTE REDUCTION
Reduce, reuse and recycle. Cut our need for single-use plastic.
TRANSPORT
Provide safe, accessible and green transport in Keswick.
CAMPAIGNING
Demand meaningful action from local and national councils.
Our Campaigns
We also have a dedicated group of volunteers who focus on persuading our local councils and the government to make decisions that better our planet and avoid destruction. With Sustainable Keswick members on Keswick Town Council and Allerdale Borough Council we have a voice in what happens to our community and make sure that Keswick and wider Cumbria are pioneers in environmental practices for the nation.

Our Green Get Togethers
Our Green Get Togethers is the opportunity to educate ourselves on issues that affect our environment and community. In the past we have had talks from Forestry and Peat experts, round-table conversations between current members and new members and environmental film nights.
Everyone is welcome to come to our Green Get Together meets, member or not. We also welcome speakers to share their knowledge and experience on environmental issues whether it is your job, general interest or hobby.

Our Steering Group
The Steering Group’s job is to ensure that Sustainable Keswick stays focused on our goals. We meet on the second Monday of the month (except if a Green Get Together is on) and are happy to extend an invitation to other members if they would like to add a subject to the agenda – just email us at info@sustainablekeswick.org.uk
