Tree Planting
In the run-up to the Climate Conference, COP-26 in Glasgow in November, groups across the
country are putting on events in the week beginning 18th September designated Big Green
Week. Sustainable Keswick has a full programme of events from talks to tree walks to tree
planting.
I am organising the Tree Planting. We want to add trees to the area of woodland which we
started in Fitz Park earlier this year. It is the wrong time of year to plant bare-rooted trees, that
will come later, but I know that lots of gardeners can’t resist planting an acorn or rescuing a tiny
tree putting it in a pot and watching it grow, so here is an opportunity to give your pot grown tree
a new exciting life in a Keswick woodland. I have already had offers but would like many more.
If you have a tree to donate please get in touch with me on 72771 or 07786347002 or
Elizabeth.Barraclough@newcastle.ac.uk to arrange collection or deposit before we plant on 21st
September. Almost any variety from Guelder rose through Hawthorn to Oak trees would be
good.
I will also be looking for strong volunteers with a hefty spade to dig holes in the difficult ground
on the day. These are the trees we planted in March and the tough place they have to grow!
